Organisation of Football in Morocco

The organisation of football in Morocco is based on a hierarchical league system, which allows clubs to ascend or face relegations based on their performances. This structure is divided into several levels, ranging from professionalism to semi-professionalism, down to amateur football.

At the top of the hierarchy is the Botola Pro, which is the highest level of Moroccan football. It comprises 16 professional clubs that compete for the Moroccan championship title. The bottom two teams in the standings at the end of the season are relegated to the Botola Pro 2, which also includes 16 clubs. The top two teams from this division are promoted to Botola Pro, while the bottom three descend to the Amateur 1.

The Amateur 1, the third tier, hosts 16 teams, predominantly semi-professional. The top two teams are promoted to Botola Pro 2, and the bottom four are relegated to the Amateur 2. This level is subdivided into two groups of 16 clubs each, operating on the same principle of promotion and relegation with Amateur 1 and the Amateur 3.

The Amateur 3, the fifth level of Moroccan football, is organised into several regional groups. It includes amateur clubs as well as reserve teams from professional outfits. Beyond Amateur 3, the system continues with regional and departmental divisions, highlighting the depth and richness of Moroccan football at all levels of competition.
